Submission News For BIPOC Horror Authors

Let's scare readers in 2025!

Hello, today is Monday, July 18th, 2022.

Let’s talk about books! If you are a frequent reader of our posts or if you follow us on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram, then you are most likely aware that CHROMOPHOBIA will be available in trade paperback starting August 1st. What’s more, that anthology is also our only regular release for 2022. And, besides OCTOBER ANIMALS in Q1 2023, CHROMOPHOBIA will be our last release for the next year or two.

But that doesn’t mean we aren’t looking!

As long as the United States doesn’t collapse in on itself like a wet box, we will be releasing a new book in 2025. Seems like a far-off date, you say? In publishing, we assure you it is not. The way acquisitions, editing, and production work pan out, 2025 may as well be next year.

So, what are we looking for? We are keeping our ears and eyes open for full-length horror manuscripts, of course. And, we are giving priority to the BIPOC community.

Last year, we opened BIPOC submissions to Journalstone’s imprint, Bizarro Pulp Press. We acquired some great stuff! However, we did field some complaints about time restraints as they related to the submission window. Well, we want you folks to know that we heard those complaints loud and clear, which is why we are giving you an entire year to get your manuscript together.

The details:

On September 29th and 30th of 2023, you will be able to submit a logline (25 words max) along with a three-sentence synopsis (250 words max) and manuscript word count to: roosterrepublicpress@gmail.com

Pitches sent outside that window will be deleted immediately, unopened and unread.

Manuscripts must be completed in order to submit, as authors will be contacted in very quick turnaround. Pitches will be read over the first week of October and any manuscript requests will be made on the 9th of October. If you are not contacted on the 9th of October, then we have passed on your pitch.

If you aren’t ready, do not submit. We cannot stress this enough.

No collections.

No reprints.

Works can be as short as 40K and up to 90K words. These are firm numbers. Do not send anything shorter or longer, it will not be considered.

Submission MUST include a logline, synopsis, and word count. Any submission missing these items will not be considered.

ALL THREE OF THE ABOVE ITEMS MUST BE INCLUDED IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED.

This call is for consideration to be published at either Rooster Republic Press or Strangehouse Books. We want people to go as big and as wild as their heart desires. Big, weird Horror. Get as nasty or as wholesome as you want. Horror is a big umbrella and we are looking forward to seeing what you dream up!
