Stokers! Future Projects! And Looking Forward to Summer!

Cradleland and Monsters and Teeth, oh my! Submissions for future titles. Pre-order info for one of 2021's hottest indie horror titles!

This Friday recap will be short and sweet, so here we go…

Stokers are this weekend! And wouldn’t you know it, but it turns out we have TWO titles in consideration for awards. Sara Tantlinger’s excellent book of poetry, CRADLELAND OF PARASITES, and the Strangehouse Books anthology, NOT ALL MONSTERS (edited by Tantlinger). Awards are swell, and of course it’d be great to win, but we will honestly be happy for whoever takes home one of those neat little haunted house trophies.

Good luck, writers!

And, if that’s not exciting enough, we officially released submission and guideline information for our follow-up anthology, CHROMOPHOBIA, which you can READ HERE. But, if you’re not a fan of links, here’s a hint of what’s to come:

From the editor:

“The use of color in literature is something that has been studied, analyzed, and written about for decades. Think of classics like ‘The Yellow Wallpaper’ by Charlotte Perkins Gilman and ‘The Masque of the Red Death’ by Edgar Allan Poe. Descriptions of color can entirely change a story’s atmosphere and tone; the imagery can lull us into safety or sickness. I’m looking for stories that use color in creative, unconventional ways. Terrify me with pastels. Use watercolors to invoke dread. Take a classic trope and redye it into something unique. I also welcome stories of chromophobia, stories with characters who have never seen color or who are color blind, or who deal with visual disabilities.”

We hope to begin production on CHROMOPHOBIA very soon. Artwork for this one will begin pretty early. The hardcover edition will be available next summer. A trade paperback release will come out over Halloween 2022.

And, next week, we are going to drop our guidelines and submission window information for the 2022 Bizarro Pulp Press roster of books. We’ve had quite a bit of success with Journalstone’s imprint, and we hope to continue that trend with our next batch of acquisitions. The hunt for quality BIG WEIRD never ends!

In other news, the QUEEN OF TEETH hardcover pre-order window is quickly coming to a close. After June, the book will be OUT OF PRINT, and there will be no way to grab a copy unless one pops up on the secondary market. And let us tell you, we can all but guarantee some of you will wish you’d grabbed a copy when it gets nominated for a Stoker next year. BOLD CLAIM. But we’d throw down good money that we’re right. Hell, we’d throw down some bad money, too.

And we will let you in on a little secret… there may just be (no promises) a very generous pre-order for the trade paperback of QUEEN OF TEETH, rearing its GAY AF Kaiju head in August. Reviews for Hailey Piper’s first full-length novel are trickling in and we feel pretty safe saying that this book will be on people’s collective radars.

Until then, get in on that hype train a little early…
