I met Garret online first and eventually in person while camping out with Michael Allen Rose and Sauda Namir for Chicago’s Printer Row, a huge book festival that shuts down a few city blocks.
So, I was more than happy to help when he asked me to help flush out an interpenetration of his character GODAN. He sent me some reference material and after a quick chat, I made a sketch to get my placement set and then, some hours later, came up with this:

I tend to go fairly rough and fast when it comes to pencil work that I know will end up digitally painted. So as I soon as I was finished, I could see that proportion would need to be corrected once I got to the coloring phase.
I’m pretty happy with how it turned out and as soon as the current docket lets up, I definitely want to play more with this approach.
